Import and export explosive growth! Shanghai has promoted the high-quality development of cross-border e-commerce

Gong Zheng, deputy Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shanghai, recently presided over an executive meeting of the municipal government, requiring them to support the development of productive Internet service platforms and promote the high-quality development of cross-border e-commerce in accordance with the deployment of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee. The meeting pointed out that in recent years, especially since the epidemic, productive Internet service platforms have shown strong resilience and are becoming an important force driving the digital transformation of supply chains and industrial chains, and the blue ocean of industrial Internet is taking shape. The meeting agreed in principle to the Action Plan of Shanghai Municipality for Promoting the High-quality Development of Cross-border E-commerce (2023-2025) and pointed out that cross-border e-commerce has become a new driving force for foreign trade development, a new channel for transformation and upgrading, and a new starting point for high-quality development. We should continue to strengthen our weak links and forge our advantages, further promote the high-quality development of cross-border e-commerce, and lay a solid foundation for Shanghai to become a central node of the domestic big cycle and a strategic link between the domestic and international double cycles. In recent years, China's cross-border e-commerce is becoming a new growth point of foreign trade, increasing by nearly 10 times in five years. Customs data show that in 2022, China's cross-border e-commerce imports and exports reached 2.11 trillion yuan, up 9.8% year on year. Among them, cross-border e-commerce at Shanghai port has developed rapidly, with the total export amount exceeding 38.9 billion yuan, surging 2.8 times year-on-year. As one of the national comprehensive pilot zones for cross-border e-commerce, Shanghai is increasing support for cross-border e-commerce, optimizing the business environment and customs clearance environment, helping the circle of friends of "Silk Road E-commerce" to expand, and helping more domestic goods to go overseas. At 13:10 on May 29, a "China-Europe freight train- -Shanghai" international freight train loaded with cloth, furniture, mechanical parts and other goods left Shanghai Minhang Freight Station and left Manzhouli with the final destination of Volsino, Russia. More than four hours later, another train of the Shanghai ship, carrying tea, tires and other goods, sailed out and headed for the five Central Asian countries via Horgos. It is the first time since the China-Europe Shanghai Express has reached a new record of two trains a day and a record of nine trains in May. Data show that since 2023, as of May 29, "China-Europe Express-Shanghai" has run 35 trains, carrying 3,664 containers, with a total weight of 33,000 tons and a value of about 1.17 billion yuan. At present, many commodities with Chinese characteristics are sold around the world through China-Europe freight trains. "Shanghai has a developed foreign trade market, with domestic and foreign enterprises gathering, a complete industrial chain, and unique advantages in developing cross-border e-commerce."Wu Tu Zi, deputy general manager of Shanghai Oriental Silk Road Multimodal Transport Co., Ltd., told the International Finance News that the rapid development of cross-border e-commerce cannot be separated from the development of transportation. Only by opening up the" big artery " of transportation, realizing the internal and external communication, and opening up the flow of people and logistics blockage, can the logistics cost of cross-border e-commerce enterprises be reduced. "The Chinese enterprises, through the new channels of China-Europe freight trains + cross-border e-commerce, allow the world to share the development dividends brought by China's wider opening-up and consumption upgrading."She further analyzed that at present, Shanghai is building a two-way channel for cross-border e-commerce, so that domestic enterprises can go abroad to participate in market competition, but also let foreign enterprises to share the new opportunities of China's opening-up. Shanghai Yangtze River Delta Industrial Internet Promotion Center, director of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics E-commerce Research Center Director Lao Guoling told the International Finance News reporter
